Mr & Mrs Gordon

The Lucky Couple

Gemma Edwards (Gemma Theresa Edwards), born 26th March 1984, will be 22. She went to Sandbach High School for Girlies and studied Psychology at the University of Nottingham. She hopes to start a course in acupuncture in September... but plans to practice on Jake first!

Jake Gordon (Jacob Barrie Gordon), born 21st March 1982, will be 24. He went to St Olave's school in Orpington, Kent and 'studied' Sociology at the University of Nottingham. He develops websites.

The Big Day

the locality

Please see your invitation to see if you're invited to the whole wedding or the reception only.

The ceremony and reception are about a 35 minutes drive apart in mid Wales. The ceremony is in Barmouth at 12 noon on Saturday and the reception in Machynlleth (say 'Mac' rather than trying to pronounce it!) at 3pm until Sunday. You may need accommodation for both Friday and Saturday nights.

the general location

You should think about transport sooner rather than later. Trains run to both Machynlleth and Barmouth, but there aren't that many per day and its not that direct between the two. Unfortunately its best to have a car or know someone with a car, especially to get round when you're there. If you're stuck for transport then let us know and we'll see if we can hook you up with someone else to share with.

Please try and car share if you can!

The Ceremony - 12 noon, Saturday 3rd June, Barmouth, mid Wales

the hotel hosting the ceremonyThe civil ceremony will take place on Saturday 3rd June at 12 noon at the Min y Mor Hotel, Marine Promenade, Barmouth, Gwynedd, Wales, LL42 (map). The hotel sits on the promenade of a sandy beach overlooking the Irish sea. Whilst officially starting at 12 noon, we have been warned that the registrar is usually late!

From Bromley it takes over 6 hours to go by train or drive to Barmouth, so it is advised that those coming to the ceremony stay in the area on Friday 2nd June, or plan well in advance (train times, driving times). You can book to stay at the Min y Mor Hotel where the bride and groom are staying, or at a selection of other local hotels and B&Bs. If staying at the Min y Mor, say you're staying with the 'Gemma Jones' wedding party to get a discount.

The Reception - 3pm, Saturday 3rd June, near Machynlleth, mid Wales

the venue for the receptionThe reception will kick off just after the ceremony, at around 3pm. The venue is a former slate quarry in Ceinws near Machynlleth, about a 30-40 minute drive from the ceremony in Barmouth. To get there, follow signs to Machynlleth and then take the A487 towards the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT). The venue is right next to CAT, postcode SY20 9AZ. That's the best directions to get there, and see the local map.

The venue will have a number of large tipis to camp over for the night in! Whilst this is highly encouraged, those less adventurous can stay in one of a number of local B&Bs (show them).

The tipis are of different sizes but hold up to 15 people in each one - the big ones really are massive, with small fires in the middle. There will be various mats etc on the floor, but it will be necessary to bring a sleeping bag and perhaps a roll mat. There is a cost of staying in the tipis - £30 per person. Staying in a tipi means no worrying about having to drive or go anywhere at the end of the evening - so you can drink as much as you like! But you will need a sleeping bag.

inside a tipiDrinks will be provided along with an evening meal and a large Sunday morning breakfast for people staying in tipis! The evening meal will be a vegetarian BBQ and buffet. There won't be a tiresome seating plan - you can sit or stand to eat, indoors or outdoors.

There will be a DJ (The Magical Tre-vor) with a selection of tunes for those of all ages, and possibly a lightshow at some point in the evening.

Children are welcome and there will be a trampoline in the kiddies' area... though others can have a bounce too :)

Wedding Presents

We do not want any 'normal' wedding presents - there's only so much fun you can have with seven kettles, 15 coaster sets and a handful of blenders. But we would appreciate:

  • Money
  • Help in organizing the reception
  • Help in giving people lifts around the area
  • Vegetarian dishes for the reception
  • Spare sleeping bags for people who forget them for the tipis
  • Good quality photos of the day

Contact us (details at top of page) if you want to help with one of the above and need to know more.

See You There!

Make sure you've done everything in the 'RSVP &What To Do' section at the top of this page.

Hope to see you there soon!
